The religious thing was a real issue for me, so finally, when I was in a more open-minded and walk-in-the-light state, I took the trouble to find a proper religious perspective on the practice of acupuncture, and whether it was okay to implement in my health journey. For me that meant asking the rabbis. I found a website where I could put a question to three rabbis with different perspectives: one Orthodox, one Conservative and one Progressive (they don’t collaborate, they aren't even in the same cities). All three were unanimous: - they said yes, acupuncture was a good thing to do on the body, provided it didn't interfere with any medication or medical conditions. This was a huge delight to me because I knew deep in myself that acupuncture was what my body required in the aftermath of an abscess that had burst, severe adrenal fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and some other issues – acupuncture would help my body do what it wanted to do – to restore balance and to help it to heal itself and strengthen.
I prefer to have a practitioner whom I know personally when it comes to my body – massage, acupuncture, whatever. And fortunately for me I have a friend who is an acupuncturist and who was willing to take me on. When under her treatment I am able to relax and let her do what she is so wonderful at doing – through her training and qualifications balanced with her deep sensitivity and intuition she has been able to effect some pretty spectacular changes in my body and consequently in my life.
She is able to do some other things that help the efficacy of her treatment: she does cupping – not everybody’s cup of tea but brilliant for me since I always seem to be needing work on my lungs. I don’t really understand exactly what cupping does, but it seems to draw toxins out and also to move the blood around. She also does another thing which quite possibly counts for as much as all her expertise: she listens. She asks open questions and actually listens. And responds. And validates. She is one of the most gentle and kind people I know, yet wise and deep in her training.
My body and my health are well in hand with this aspect of care, along with things like massage, mindful eating and drinking, general daily practices such as moving my body, going out to fun places, having the occasional holiday, and so on.
And just in case anybody who lives in Brisbane is interested, the name of this lovely acupuncturist is Adele, and her website is as follows: http://www.acubalance.net.au/
Here’s to the strengthening, improvement and celebration of all our bodies!
